Pentagon propaganda program orders soldiers to promote Iraq war while home

Remember, in the movie Catch 22 when they offer Joserian a ticket home if they "like us. Go home and tell everybody what a great job were doing over here. Say nice things about us."
That was based in WWII. Does fiction follow reality or is it the other way around.
